A gap is the capability your kit is missing: the radio, PTT, EUD, sensor or power source that should connect and doesn't, or does it badly. Describe the system and the problem. We take it from there.
The USMC fielded AN/PRC-163 radios without complete cabling, and the manufacturer's offering wasn't directly compatible with the PTT and EUD cabling Marines already carried. Their gap was a purpose-built cable compatible across all three systems. That became PC-4531 and PC-4532, fielded battalion-wide.
A gap shared across a unit, a battalion or a program is what we're built for. When a production run is plausible, the design work is typically free: the run pays for it, and you get a part number the whole organization can order.
